Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026
Previous version effective January 1, 2025
TroTro (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of every family that uses our platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using TroTro you agree to the practices described below.
This policy covers the TroTro mobile app for parents and drivers and this website. In the app you may also see the shorter TroTro Privacy Summary; this policy is the fuller version of the same practices.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated as you use the app.
Account information
- Parent full name, email address, and phone number, your password (stored in hashed form), and an optional profile photo
- Student name, grade level, and school name
- Pickup and drop-off address
- Emergency contact name, relationship, and phone number
- Any needs you choose to share so we can transport your child safely, and the adults you authorize to receive your child
Driver information
- For drivers: identity, license, driving-record, background-check, vehicle, and insurance details, and the documents submitted to verify them
Location data
- Driver precise GPS location while a route is active, including while the driver app is in the background (shared in real time with the parents of the children on that ride)
- Pickup and drop-off coordinates derived from your registered address
- Ride records: when and where each child was picked up and dropped off
Payment information
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers; we keep only a card summary (such as card brand, last four digits, and expiry date) and Stripe reference numbers
Usage and device data
- Records of activity in the service, such as ride events, ride reports, and account changes, and the technical logs our servers keep to operate and secure the service
- A push-notification token for your device and its platform (iOS or Android)
Support communications
- Messages you send to us for support
Website inquiries
- If you use the contact forms on this website, the details you enter — such as your name, email, phone number, school or organization, neighborhood, and message. The website does not ask for a child’s name, date of birth, home address, or school records
2. How We Use Your Information
- Providing and operating the TroTro service, including real-time ride tracking and notifications
- Matching students with assigned drivers and communicating route details
- Sending pickup, drop-off, delay, and emergency alerts to registered parents
- Verifying driver identity and maintaining driver safety records
- Investigating reports and resolving disputes between parents and drivers
- Processing payments and managing your plan
- Operating, securing, and improving the service
- Complying with applicable laws and responding to lawful requests
4. Children’s Privacy
TroTro is designed for parents and guardians to manage transportation for minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. All student information is entered and managed by the parent or guardian who holds the account — children do not have TroTro accounts. If you believe a child has provided us information without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Student data is used solely to facilitate safe transportation. It is never used for advertising, sold to third parties, or shared beyond what is necessary to operate the service. Parents can ask us to access, correct, or delete their child’s information using the contact details in Section 12.
5. Location Data
Driver location is collected only while a route is active — including when the driver app is in the background, so arrivals are still detected if the driver switches to a navigation app — and is shared in real time with the parents of the children on that ride. We use it to show the vehicle approaching, send pickup and drop-off alerts, and confirm arrival at each stop. Location collection stops when the route ends.
When you enter a pickup or drop-off address, we convert it to map coordinates using a mapping provider. The location points and pickup and drop-off record of each ride are kept as part of that ride’s safety record (see Data Retention).
We do not collect location from children or their devices. We do not collect parent device location unless you explicitly grant permission for a future feature.
6. Data Retention
- Active account data is retained for as long as your account remains open
- We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service, support safety and audit needs, and meet legal and operational obligations
- Certain records — such as agreement acceptances, ride and custody records (who drove, when, and where each child was picked up and released), billing and payment records, and records of the service emails we sent — are retained for safety, audit, and financial purposes and are not deleted while they are required
7. Deleting Your Account
Parents can delete their account in the app: Profile → Account → Delete account. You confirm with your password, and deletion takes effect immediately.
What deletion removes
- Your login is closed and you are signed out
- Your name, phone number, email address, profile photo, and home address are removed from your profile
- Your children’s names are removed from our records
- Your emergency contacts, saved pickup locations, and notification preferences are deleted
- Any co-parent access to your children ends, and unused invitation codes are cancelled
What we keep
- The record of past rides — who drove, when, and where each child was collected and released — as a safety record, with your family’s names removed from it
- Billing and payment records needed for financial and legal obligations
- A record that the account was deleted
If your child is on a ride, deletion waits until the ride is complete.
Requesting deletion by email
Drivers, and anyone who cannot use the in-app option, can request deletion of their account and associated data by emailing trotrotransit@gmail.com from the email address on the account, with the subject “Delete my account”. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within 30 days.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain types of processing
- Receive your data in a portable format
You can update your account and contact information in the app. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12; we may need to confirm your identity first. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Security
We use safeguards including encrypted data transmission (TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls that limit each parent and driver to the information their role requires. Card details are held by our payment processor, not by TroTro. No system is completely secure; if you suspect unauthorized access to your account, contact us immediately.
10. Notifications and Emails
We send push notifications through Expo’s push notification service about pickups, drop-offs, delays, emergencies, and your account. You can choose which ride notifications you receive in the app, and turn notifications off in your device settings. We send service emails — such as route, account, and billing notices — through Resend, and we keep a log of those emails (recipient, subject, and delivery status) to confirm delivery and answer questions.
11. Third-Party Links and Services
The app may link to third-party services (e.g. mapping providers). This policy does not apply to those services and we encourage you to review their privacy practices independently.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions or concerns about this policy or how your data is handled, please reach out:
- Email: trotrotransit@gmail.com
- Contact form: jointrotro.com/contact
- In the TroTro app: Profile → Account → Help & Support
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you via in-app alert or email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of TroTro after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
